Roisin Shorthall TD (the former Junior Minister for Health) submitted a formal Dail Question to The Minister for Health concerning Maureen's death.

We asked for a full apology by the HSE for Maureen's death and a full inquiry by HIQA into medical standards at The Mater Hospital.

OUTCOME in 2014 / 2015:

The HSE refused Stephen Desmond's request for a full formal HSE investigation into the treatment Maureen Desmond received at the Mater Hospital. The HSE refused to apologise for Maureen's death and refused to make any recommendations or changes to clinical practice based on The Coroner's findings, and refused Stephen Desmond's request for a HIQA investigation into standards at the Mater Hospital. This refusal by the HSE to take any positive action resulted in the family of Maureen Desmond progressing their legal action against The Mater Hospital.
